Enrollment types explained

The KACE Cloud enrollment process for each operating system and device scenario explained.

  • Android enrollment types:
    • New devices: Enrollment for company-owned devices purchased through an authorized reseller can be automated using KACE Cloud. This includes company-owned, personally-enabled (COPE) Android devices. For more information, see:
    • Devices not purchased through reseller: Enrollment for devices not purchased through an authorized reseller can be completed using the afw#setup (AMAPI) or afw#kace (EMM) tag process. For more information, see:
    • Personal devices (BYOD): Personal Android devices can be enrolled in KACE Cloud by setting up an Android Work Profile. For more information, see:
    • Samsung Knox enrollment:
      • New Devices: Before configuring and enrolling devices in Samsung Knox, you will need to:
        • Request access to Samsung Knox Mobile Enrollment and purchase devices from an authorized reseller.
        • Create a profile to meet your specific device enrollment requirements.

  • iOS enrollment types:
    • New devices: DEP enrollment for company-owned devices purchased from Apple or an authorized reseller can be automated using KACE Cloud. For more information, see Enrolling Apple devices in KACE Cloud with Apple DEP and the related video.
    • Devices not purchased through reseller: Enrollment for devices not purchased through a reseller can be completed using the Supervised Mode process in KACE Cloud. For more information, see Enrolling iOS devices in Supervised Mode and the related video.
    • Personal devices (BYOD): Personal iOS devices can be enrolled in KACE Cloud by installing a mobile device management profile on the device. For more information, see Enroll personal iOS devices and the related video.
  • macOS enrollment types:
    • New devices: DEP enrollment for new macOS devices can be completed by linking your KACE Cloud account with DEP, then completing the process. For more information, see Enrolling Apple devices in KACE Cloud with Apple DEP and the related video.
    • Personal devices (BYOD): Personal macOS computers can be enrolled in KACE Cloud by installing a mobile device management profile on the computer. For more information, see Enroll personal macOS devices.
  • tvOS enrollment types: 
    • New devices: DEP enrollment for new tvOS devices can be completed by linking your KACE Cloud account with DEP, then completing the enrollment process.     • Devices not purchased through reseller: Enrollment for devices not purchased through an authorized reseller can be completed using Apple Configurator 2 to add a device into DEP. For more information, see Enrolling tvOS devices.
    • Manual: To create and install configuration profiles on your devices without DEP, an admin can use Apple Configurator 2. For more information, see Enrolling tvOS devices.
  • Windows enrollment types:
    • New devices: Autopilot enrollment for company-owned devices purchased from an authorized Windows hardware provider can be automated using KACE Cloud. These devices need to be added to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center by the hardware provider. For more information, see Enrolling Windows devices and the related video.
    • Devices not purchased through hardware provider: Any Windows device can be manually enrolled in the Microsoft Store for Business, which will allow an Autopilot deployment after a reset. For existing devices where a reset would be inconvenient, KACE Cloud offers Azure Domain Join enrollments. For more information, see Enrolling Windows devices and the related video.
    • Personal devices (BYOD): Personal Windows devices can be enrolled in KACE Cloud through Azure Add Work Account enrollments or by doing an MDM-only enrollment. For more information, see Enrolling Windows devices and the related video.
  • KACE Cloud Agent Installation methods
    • Manual Installation: Launch the installer directly on the target device.
    • Automated Deployment: Use one of the following methods
      • Through MDM providers like Microsoft Intune, VMware Workspace One
      • Through Group Policy
